Dyson Spheres and Halo RingsAccording to Wikipedia A Dyson sphere is a hypothetical megastructure originally described by Freeman Dyson. Such a "sphere" would be a system of orbiting solar power satellites meant to completely encompass a star and capture most or all of its energy output. Dyson speculated that such structures would be the logical consequence of the long-term survival and escalating energy needs of a technological civilization, and proposed that searching for evidence of the existence of such structures might lead to the detection of advanced intelligent extraterrestrial life. The space rings, or ring worlds made popular by the Halotm video game series are another example of a hypothetical megastructure.
I fully support the construction of a large-scale orbital space ring built around planet earth. In fact in some ways I believe this step should come before we even think of building a moon base. Although I do suggest we send sand-bagger construction drones to the moon in the meantime to build the foundations for future moon bases. Freeman Dyson
